Workshops Offered
Master class tune-up
Will Hines
We'll do a series of Will's favorite exercises that cover acting, scenework and game.
Topics include: communicating with tone rather than words, using honesty to jumpstart a scene, sharpening your game with on-purpose foolish behavior, enjoying a weird world and being a stronger, more enjoyable voice of reason. These are exercises he's used a lot in his classes over the last few years and he's found they have immediate impact on people's playing. Plus they're fun. Coaches and teachers might find them helpful to incorporate in their practices too.
I Am Your Blank, But That’s Not All
Elana Fishbein
Every character we play should have the capacity to be a protagonist. In this workshop, scenes and exercises will push participants to explore and widen the world by investing in each character's wants, needs, baggage, and fixations. If you're looking to enrich your tag-outs, walk-ons, and overall scene work skills, this workshop is for you.
Crashganics - Organic Improv
Shannon O’Neill
Shannon O'Neill teaches a style of organic improv that forces you to be in the moment. This workshop will focus on the beginning. Openings, edits, and the start of scenes. Ideally, students in this workshop have been exposed to a few or all of the following openings, pattern game, scene painting, sound and movement, invocation & documentary. But it's not a deal breaker if they haven't. Advanced Students Preferred.
What’s Your Deal?
Sarah Claspell
Ever feel stuck in a scene? Not anymore! Let’s crack the code on character games! By playing with point of view and justifications, you’ll discover how to make scenes pop- and keep them going in all kinds of new directions. We’ll hone our character games by digging into point of view and justification so that “Game” is easy and fun, and you can think of a ton of other places to take your scene. Suddenly your choices will feel clear, bold, and full of possibilities.
Let's Move It!
Donald Chang
Life doesn’t just happen from the neck up and neither should your improv! In this workshop, we’ll focus on physicality, stage presence, and spatial awareness- learning how movement can drive character, relationships, and storytelling. We'll take your improv off the sidelines and into motion in this high-energy workshop. You'll get out of your seat and into the space, exploring how movement, physicality, and presence can elevate your scenework. Come ready to play, move, and make bold choices!

These forms can also be performed live on stage.
AND
Pirate, Robot, Ninja:
What kind of improviser are you?
Are you more Analytical[Robot] or Impulsive[Pirate] in your Improv? This workshop explores where your creativity comes from so you can harness your strength and work on your perceived weaknesses. Creating a balance and become the perfect improviser.
Give Improv the Respect it Deserves
Sebastian Conelli
In this workshop we will work on honoring the reality and acting while making big playful choices. Improv is closer to theater than stand up. Let’s give the stage the respect it deserves. This workshop is perfect for someone working on committing harder and playing full real characters.
Musical Improv
Michael Lutton & Andy Wiggins (accompanist)
Ever wished your scenes could break into song? In this playful, low-pressure workshop, you’ll learn how to turn your thoughts and emotions into music and bring a whole new dimension to your improv. Through group games, movement, and supportive ensemble exercises, we’ll explore the building blocks of musical improv so that you can create songs on the spot with confidence (and joy!). No singing experience required- just a willingness to jump in, have fun, and maybe surprise yourself a little.
** Personal note from your camp director, Kate! I took Michael's Musical Improv workshop after listening to a podcast with Dave Pasquesi, of "TJ and Dave". In it, he recommended that all improvisers give musical improv a try. Having no musical skills myself, this felt like a leap for me but Michael's workshop has helped me quickly identify the emotion of a scene, which has aided my non-musical improv work tremendously. Also- it was a blast!

Break the rules
We're often told to avoid doing certain kinds of scenes: Don't fight, don't do a teaching scene, don't do a transaction scene - the list goes on. Well, in this workshop we're going to do all of those scenes and then some! Come explore how you can do any type of scene and make it successful.
Initiating the scene, not just the game
Jim Woods
Getting to the game quickly is good, but not if it's at the expense of the scene. This class will focus on initiating scenes that have a strong reality while still serving the premise -- using emotion, relationship, location, vibe, etc -- to help make your game POP!
